Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage

This course is an introduction to massage therapy and bodywork. Learning the basics of massage techniques and touch. By the end of this class you will be able to perform a Swedish massage utilizing the various strokes, proper body mechanics, contraindications and indications, movement theory, tools needed to perform Swedish massage.

Sports Massage

Students will gain a knowledge of preventative techniques for potential sports injuries to give you a competitive edge in the field. You will learn the importance of pre- and post event massage, flushing and deep tissue, neuromuscular techniques to aid in quick recovery from injuries and surgical rehabilitation.

Medical Terminology

This course prepares the student for work in the healthcare field by teaching a comprehensive language used by medical professionals.

Muscle A & P

This course focuses on the human muscle anatomy. Muscle A & P teaches muscle origin, insertion nerve innervation through kinetic, visual and auditory learning.

Asian Theory

Students will learn about different skills in Eastern and Western Healing Modalities. In this class students will gain experience Shiatsu, Polarity, Tai Yoga Massage and Reflexology. 

Body Mind Connection

This course delves into the connection of body and mind. Students will learn how the connections of emotions have effects on the body and how behavioral patterns affect functions and posture. Students will learn how massage and emotional release happen. This will enhance the therapist’s ability to give better treatment to clients.

Anatomy & Physiology

This introduction to Anatomy & Physiology briefly reviews the multiple systems found in the body and explains their purpose. This basic understanding of the human body is the foundation for the following two Anatomy & Physiology units.

Business

In the Business portion we cover the different business entities, resume writing, marketing strategies, business planning and the differences in being an independent contractor vs. employee.

Ethics

This course covers the professional laws and rules of North Carolina and ethical conduct required in the scope of practice for massage therapist. We cover professional boundaries, power differentials, client/therapist roles, ethical financial practices. 

Pathology

Students will learn how degenerative conditions and metabolic disorders and aging affect systems of the body. Learning focus will be on recognizing the different signs and symptoms of diseases and their massage contraindications. This course will cover the 10 major systems of the body such as musculo-skeletal, nervous, immune, integumentary, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine and reproductive. Students will do research and prepare presentations of chosen pathologies.

Certification Review

This course is an overview of information for preparation in taking the required Mblex. This course revisits the program and the student is tested and refreshed.

Kinesiology

Students learn Study the integration of body structure and movements. 

Student Clinic

​Neuromuscular Therapy

The student will learn Neuromuscular Therapy for the upper body in this course. The student will learn how to use proper body mechanics and client placement for each protocol. Students will learn the history and difference in the modalities. The student will learn how to use tools.

Medical Massage

Students will learn about special populations and how to treat them in massage. Students will learn pregnancy massage, geriatric massage, and infant massage. In this course, students will also learn about pharmacology and how massage can be contraindicated by the different side effects of massage.

Massage Salts

Spa Techniques

This course will teach students about the various spa techniques and services. Students will learn hydrotherapy with the use of hot and cold contrast. Students will practice hot stone massage and learn how to clean and recharge the stones, students will also practice body scrubs and body wraps. Learning to incorporate spa treatments with therapeutic massage for a well rounded experience.

Students receive supervised guidance and practice in a clinical setting working with the general public. Instructions will be given on intake, clinical procedures, charting and client therapeutic relationships.
